Greetings & Thoughts
Quiet week ahead after a good week of transit and chat

We’ve addressed all the bugs in the transition of these emails to Mailchimp.  Unfortunately, we’re unable to celebrate that achievement with a full slate of exciting meetings to announce.  As sometimes happens with the last week of the month, there won’t be a single local meeting of urbanist interest this week.  And few City agendas have not yet been published for April.  Also, we postponed the April 8 Know Before You Grow forum because the selected topic wasn’t yet ripe for discussion.

But we expect to have more news to share next week.

In the absence of other updates, I can share a few details about a trip I took last week.  I spent last Monday on an all-transit trip.  The day went great.  Sure, we missed one connection but adjusted and finished strong on a day that went train/ferry/streetcar/subway/subway/bus/train/bus with a dim sum breakfast in Chinatown and a delicious deli lunch in Martinez.  Naively, I didn’t know breakfast dim sum was possible but loved it.

The trip organizer, who did great, may be interested in doing another trip, perhaps with different elements.  If you’re a good traveler, someone who’s willing to gamely decipher a dim sum menu at 8 am, sit in a train depot for an hour after missing a connection for a dumb reason and quietly accept sitting in a warm bus for a departure that will be 45 minutes late, let me know.  If the opportunity arises, I’ll keep you advised.

Lastly, the Urban Chat lunch this past week was the most well-attended in a long time, perhaps ever.  It was a good group with engaging and energizing conversations.  Momentum!

All events are open to the public and everyone is encouraged to participate in person or online.

Monday, April 3 – Petaluma City Council
Per the approved tentative agenda, the Council will consider an ordinance on Residential Tenancy Protection and a proposed agreement with SMART on the Corona train station now in design.

The public portion of the meeting will convene at 6:30pm.  Other meeting information will be provided on the Urban Chat calendar when published by the City.

Thursday, April 20 – Petaluma General Plan Advisory Committee
GPAC will convene for their monthly meeting.  The topic isn’t yet finalized but may be flooding and sea level rise.

The meeting will convene at 6:30pm.  Other meeting information will be provided on the Urban Chat calendar when published by the City.

Thursday, April 27 – Petaluma Urban Chat
The monthly meeting of Urban Chat is almost always agenda-free, allowing an enjoyable and enlightening conversation to wander freely over the urbanist landscape.  The most recent meeting was well-attended and full of spirited conversation.

The exchange of ideas will commence at noon.  Other information is provided on the Urban Chat calendar.
