Downtown Living for Active Seniors: How Downtown Senior Living Would Work and How Seniors Would Benefit Downtown

  • Cavanaugh Center 426 8th Street Petaluma, CA, 94952 United States (map)

As Petaluma seeks to enhance the downtown retail and considers zoning to bring more residents downtown, Jason Reyes of Calson Management will join us to discuss how he views senior housing in the heart of Petaluma.

His focus will be active senior living—housing for older adults who desire an active and engaged lifestyle but without home maintenance.  Reyes will share insights about how a well-designed urban development could look, as well as Calson’s experiences with how seniors contribute to downtown economic activity without relying on cars.

Like all urban infill, senior housing in a downtown core has special challenges from zoning restrictions to parking to height limitations and much more, all of which impact feasibility.  Also, securing financing for mixed-use developments, addressing concerns about density, and ensuring access to healthcare and walkable amenities are critical.

Reyes will explore how these challenges can be overcome and how a well-planned active adult development could bring foot traffic to local businesses, increase demand for retail and restaurants, and foster a more intergenerational community.

The doors will be open no later than 6:45 and forum will start at 7:00pm.  (The Zoom call will start close to 7:00.)  Q&A will be encouraged.
