Join two of the principals of Spirit Living for an introduction to the proposed Spirit Living project. The project has been proposed as a four-story, mixed-use building on Lot 5 of the Riverfront Mixed-use development.
The developers will discuss the need senior housing and residential care facilities in Petaluma and what the Spirit Living project will do to activate the Riverfront Master Plan. The total building of 73,509 square feet includes ground floor mixed-use and restaurant space, and amenities to support the Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) proposed on the upper floors, back-of-house spaces, and parking. 36 memory care units are proposed on the second floor, and 70 senior apartments are proposed on the third floor and fourth floors with 35 apartments per floor. The senior apartments will be a mix of studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms.

Ali Kia Shabahangi is a Principal of Spirit Living Group and leads development and acquisitions for the Company. Prior to founding Spirit, Ali was Vice President of The GMS Group, an investment banking firm specializing in real estate and senior housing finance, where he served as underwriter and later opened the Company’s West Coast office. Ali is also a founding principal of AgeSong, Inc., an assisted living management company serving seniors in the Bay Area, where he served as President until 2007. Ali graduated from UC Berkeley and received his JD from Santa Clara University School of Law where he has been a guest lecturer. Ali’s interests include modern architecture inspired by Mies van der Rohe, Vipassana meditation, following Jack Kornfield at Spirit Rock and running half-marathons, with a best time of 1:42.
Amir Kia is a Principal of Spirit Living Group and leads the Company in the areas of finance and operations. Amir is a founding Principal of AgeSong, Inc. and brings extensive experience in senior housing finance, operations and management, having served in various capacities for the Company until 2007, including Executive Director, CFO and CEO. He is responsible for funding acquisitions and development while keeping a close pulse on quality of care and services, receiving the American Society on Aging’s National Award for Excellence in creating exemplary programs and performance models. He is a graduate of Wharton and the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley where he has taught and served as Vice-Chair on the board of trustees of the Unitarian Universalist seminary. He currently serves as Chair of the board of Golestan Kids in Berkeley and trustee of the Helix School in San Rafael. He has brought balance to his work by coaching people to live from their spiritual center and supported a diverse population of men and women at the county jail as a meditation and communication facilitator. Amir’s interests include improv, tennis, and nature, hiking 850km to Camino de Santiago along the northern coast of Spain in 30 days. He’s also a fan of Wisdom 2.0 and the Modern Elder Academy.
