A safe walk to school. A coffee shop around the corner. A canopy of trees shading the street. Courtyards where neighbors gather. You’ll find these experiences in places that prioritize people.
Frustrating highway congestion. Smog that chokes the air. A tragic epidemic of pedestrian and biker deaths on roadways. These are the byproducts of cities designed and built to serve four-wheeled machines, not the humans who inhabit them.
Unfortunately, far too many places in our communities treat cars like royalty and people like obstacles.
Many of us know how to design components of a place you can cherish in a city. Your list may include safe streets, an abundant tree canopy, a myriad of small shops and bustling restaurants, or parks to connect with your neighbors.
The question confronting our communities is this: Why is it so doggone hard to build those kinds of places?
In this forum, we’ll explore what it takes to permit, finance, and build the places for people that our cities desperately need.
The doors will be open no later than 6:45 and forum will start at 7:00pm. (The Zoom call will start close to 7:00.) Q&A will be encouraged.
